Commisioned by Mathaf: the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar, 2012.

Curatorial note: “Bassem Yousri’s mixed media installation is meant as a critical voice of dissent that emanates from within the exhibition itself. Yousri’s characters that are dispersed across the museum galleries participate in the act of looking while, at the same time, questioning the thematic notions, juxtapositions, and semantics that are proposed by the curators. they engage with the artworks and the mechanisms by which they are displayed (plinths, pedestals, vitrines, etc.) at times in consent, and at others in acts of disobedience, that seek to topple the museological paradigms by which they operate. They also surround the viewers from every corner scrutinising their every move and mimicking the way they respond to the displays. Yousri’s figures, and different forms of intervention permeate the museum forming a thread that connects the exhibition various iterations.”
