From the Bottom to the Top and Vice Versa, 2024

Mixed media sculpture (wood and fired whitestone clay), 4.5 × 4.5 × 1.5 m

In this work, Bassem Yousri investigates the relationship between harmony and randomness. From the Bottom to the Top and Vice Versa is a sculpture inspired by Cairo with its overwhelming energy, movements, and sounds. Whereas from the outside, chaos seems to rule the cityscape, some order and harmony might be at the core beneath the surface. This piece is loosely based on a previous installation that he produced in 2012, entitled It’s Not As Easy As It May Have Seemed to Be.
