Where Do We Go from Here?

Where Do We Go from Here? brings the Guideposts inquiry into a new context. For years I had been tracking what I call the “institutional aesthetic” — the visual clutter, improvised functionality, and forms of decay that characterize government buildings, public signage, and state-commissioned public art across Cairo. The question that drives the project is whether this aesthetic is purely local, or whether its logic and authority carry meaning elsewhere.

The works were developed during a two-week residency at the gallery, in which I collected discarded household objects donated by local residents, incorporating them into the sculptures as found material.
